A Westmorland Welcome Since 1730

Welcome to The New Inn 1730 — a place steeped in heritage, warmth, and good honest food.

Tucked away in the rolling hills of Cumbria, The New Inn has stood since the year 1730, once a rest stop for weary travellers and now lovingly restored as a cosy Westmorland farmhouse-style inn. We’re not just a pub or tearoom — we’re a place to pause, breathe, and enjoy the simpler things in life.

We serve hearty, home-style food that celebrates local produce and timeless recipes.

  • On Thursday to Saturday afternoons, you’ll find sandwiches, soups, cakes and scones served with steaming pots of tea and rustic charm in our traditional tearoom setting.

  • In the evenings, the lights dim for our Farmhouse Canteen, with wholesome two-course suppers that feel like something your gran used to make (if your gran had a big cast iron range and a flair for gravy).

  • And on Sundays, our roast carvery is a no-fuss, full-flavour affair — all the trimmings, no pretension.

We’ve styled The New Inn with a sense of quiet nostalgia — stone floors, distressed walls and maybe a tale or two from long-ago travellers tucked into your table napkin.

This isn’t fast food. It’s slow, comforting, proper fare — cooked with care and served with a smile.

So whether you’re calling in for a cuppa and a slab of sticky ginger cake, settling down for supper, or sharing stories over roast beef and Yorkshire puds, you’ll always be welcome at our table.

Come as you are. Leave full and happy.
